Resources & Facilities

We are really proud of our school and so are our children. We are constantly investing in the building, the facilities and resources to ensure that it is a positive learning environment where the best teaching and learning can take place.

The main school building consists of one block with interconnecting corridors. There are coded locks on all external doors. We have:

  • 8 classrooms in the main school
  • 2 reception classes
  • Interactive whiteboards in every classroom
  • Shared areas / breakout spaces
  • A courtyard garden,
  • A recently well-resourced library
  • 60 computer tablets plus 30 for the Reception classes
  • A hall
  • A large meeting room

School dinners are served from our own kitchens and the children eat their dinners or packed lunches in the school hall.

Children do not have to go outside to move from one classroom to another or to visit the main hall or the school office. This layout is designed to be flexible and offer the most suitable environment for the whole school, classes or individual tuition.

Our school has wonderful grounds with lovely outside playing areas and an outdoor classroom that we use for lessons during the summer months.

Our newly updated Nature Garden is a wonderful addition to the school and the children are taken there weekly to tend their vegetable garden, for science lessons e.g. bug hunting and of course to plant seeds and flowers during the spring and summer.

Our Reception unit (which divides into two classrooms or can be opened up into one large space) is located within the main school, but is separate in that its corridor leads from the main hall in a different direction to the other classes. This allows the younger children to get to know the school more gradually. Although they are encouraged to mix with the main school and have access to the resources, they are able to be self-contained and separate from the main school. The unit has its own playground, and grass area that is well equipped with toys and climbing equipment appropriate to the age group catered for. The children can use the bikes, dressing up clothes, sand, water, tyres, playhouse, hoops and balls.

Our Governors are committed to investing in ICT, we currently have two banks of tablets for the classes to use throughout the school day and Reception have their own. These are continually updated with the latest Apps for the children to access. Our Key Stage 2 children also use the fully equipped ICT suite weekly at the Middle School.

The school also has a very well resourced and fully equipped library. It is an attractive area which the children love and is large enough for whole classes to visit and use when working on projects and each child also has the opportunity to borrow books.

Classroom Environment

At Potton Lower we endeavour to make each classroom environment attractive and stimulating for the children, so being conducive to active learning. Each class is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and with its own set of resources designed to meet the demands of the curriculum.

Using the School as a Local Resource

At Potton Lower School we believe that the resources we have should be at the disposal of the local community and we make every effort to ensure that our facilities do not stand idle out of school hours.

The main hall is available for hire for a variety of activity groups and can also be used for children’s parties, discos and other private events at discounted rates. More information can be found on our Hire Page.
